Established
in 2002 as a 501c3 nonprofit corporation,
Making A Way Housing, Inc. A.K.A. "The Compound"
set forth on a special mission to address the growing epidemic
of homelessness in metropolitan Atlanta. Located in southwest
Atlanta, the organization operates a facility that is comprised
of 72-two bedroom, one-bath apartment units and a 25 bed emergency
shelter. Single homeless adults, male and female, facing complex
challenges associated with chronic homelessness, substance
abuse, mental illness, and HIV and AIDS are welcome. Since
its inception, the program has housed over 400 homeless persons
helping them obtain gainful employment , learn to cope with
and manage mental illness, achieve long-lasting substance
abuse recovery, and reintegrate back into the community as
productive, independent citizens.
As mentioned previously, homeless persons accepted into our
program can access several housing options, emergency, transitional,
and permanent supportive housing. Community partnerships provide
residents with a comprehensive continuum of care which is
vital to the sucess of, health and dental care, crisis care,
employment and job search, mental health services, HIV/AIDS
education and testing, and many other services as needed for
the rehabilitation and healing process. Through these partnerships
residents receive assistance with and are linked to entitlements,
resettlement, life-skills, drug and alcohol addiction. The
facility’s community spaces and amenities include a conference
room, recreation room, laundry room, regular maintenance,
and certified pest control services.
Emergency Shelter Housing is

men and women. We do not allow any alcohol or drug use on
our premises and require clients to be drug and alcohol free
for at least 2 days before they can check into our Emergency
Shelter Program. We reserve the right to ask all of our clients
to provide us with a urine sample at any time.
Clients have access to our food pantries, our phone, mail
and message services, our information and referral services.
Our staff is committed to provide the highest quality of comprehensive
services to all of our clients regardless of their socio-economic
background. We strive to support and assist all of our clients
with dignity and respect and encourage all our clients to
apply for our transitional housing. Clients in need of substance
abuse or mental health treatment services may access these
treatment services.
Transitional Housing is Gilead's
Place
The program offers a six to 12-month curriculum with individual
and group counseling, life skills training, work therapy and
spiritual guidance. Our transitional housing program continues
the healing process. Residents are offered comprehensive services
including on site case management, addictions counseling,
health services, 12-step support groups, and educational and
employment opportunities. Most residents are employed or engaged
in education or vocational training. Residents pay rent as

in a supportive, drug-free environment while working or pursuing
further education as they transition to independent living.
Permanent Supportive Housing
is Daniel's Place
This is a permanent supportive housing residence for formerly
homeless men and women who have completed a drug or alcohol
treatment program and who are seeking a supportive group living
environment as a continuation of their recovery program. Residents
are offered comprehensive services including on site case
management, addictions counseling, health services, 12 step
support groups, and educational and employment opportunities.
Most residents are employed or engaged in education or vocational
training. Residents pay rent as well as purchase and prepare
their own food. Various recreational activities are offered
and there is a tenant council that is a vehicle for resident
input into house rules and services.
We are not a government agency; we rely on the generosity
of individuals, foundations, businesses, lenders, and other
partners to fund our programs. You may wish to consider contributing
